What Are Residential Services?

Our Residential Program gives adults with developmental disabilities a secure place to feel safe and loved — within Bello Machre-owned homes. Live-in caregivers support three to four people in the home, helping each person grow, develop, and live life to their fullest.

About Our Homes

At Bello Machre, we provide a place where your loved one will be cared for and live a full life.

Currently, we have 50 homes. Four are located in Carroll County and the rest are in Anne Arundel County. Each home has three to four people living in it, plus the Family Living Director (FLD) who has their own apartment within the home. Some FLDs also have their families living with them.

Yes, we welcome families to be active participants in your loved ones’ lives! We have an open-door policy. You can visit loved ones in their Bello Machre home and attend doctor appointments and activities.

Yes, your loved one can go home on weekends, holidays, and on vacations with your family.

Day-To-Day Life For Bello Machre Residents

When people are in a residential program home, they’ll be cared for by our Bello Machre staff. We’ll cook, we’ll clean, and we’ll invite everyone to participate and build a sense of community.

Everyone in Bello Machre’s Residential Program has the option to participate in day programs, like Meaningful Day. Combined services are certainly in our wheelhouse!

Individual Needs

In Residential Services, the team — the Family Living Director (FLD), Program Director (PD), and other staff — works with your family to find an appropriate day program.

We personalize their day to meet their needs and will explore alternative options as necessary.

An assessment is made with their team to determine if they can stay home alone. Safety is the number one priority.

Meals

Bello Machre staff provide these services, but the people we support are invited to participate.

Yes, if they choose to, and we encourage it as it builds an engaged sense of community.

Groceries are purchased in general for the entire home for staple meals based on individual preferences. If someone wants a personal food item they are not planning to share, they must use their personal allowance.

Medical Appointments

Yes, and family members are welcome to join if they so choose.

We are contracted with Dimensional Health Care and they provide baseline assessments and 45-day assessments and guidance with all medical and healthcare needs.

Activities

Yes, they can participate in activities such as bowling, movies, etc.

Residential Services Staff

Our Bello Machre staff work tirelessly to provide a clean, comfortable home for your loved one.

Staff FAQs

Yes, each home has a house manager who lives on-site. We refer to them as Family Living Directors, or FLDs.

Each staff member must complete all Developmental Disability Administration-required training and any additional training required based on the needs of the people they serve. Staff must complete background checks and drug tests upon hire.

Staff are always present in our homes, and Bello Machre has staff living in most of our residential program homes.

Overnight staff is based on the needs of the people in a home. Sometimes, Awake-Overnight (AON) and additional staff will be assigned to provide relief/sleeping hours.

We recommend calling your loved one’s Family Living Director (FLD) first, and then following up with the Program Director (PD).

We want to help make your loved one’s care affordable. Learn about costs, financial support, and funding for our residential services program.

Finance FAQ’s

No, but there is contribution to care.

Yes, it’s considered a contribution to care. The exact amount is determined by the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA).

Each person receives a personal needs allowance from their social security to purchase personal items as well as to be used for activities in the community.
